Bambi and Thumper's Journey to Healing and Hope
It's heartening to share an uplifting update on two incredibly special fur babies, Bambi and Thumper, who are currently under the nurturing care of Cross My Paws Animal Rescue. These two adorable shepherd-mix dogs found wandering the streets of Rio Rancho, now find solace in a medical foster home, awaiting a future bright with possibilities.
Bambi and Thumper's journey began when they were discovered near King Blvd. and Ramparts Road, with no collars, tags, or microchips, indicating they might have been abandoned due to their front leg deformities. Despite these challenges, their spirits remain unbroken, embodying joy and affection in their foster home. They revel in the company of their housemates, Edie, an American hunting beagle, and Arthur, a giant Chihuahua, showcasing their amiable nature. Bambi, with a penchant for "dozing" around the house, enjoys the lushness of the grassy yard, while Thumper prefers the comfort of the indoors, venturing out with cautious curiosity.
The mystery of their bond—whether they are siblings, kennel mates, or share a parent-child relationship—adds a layer of intrigue to their story. What's clear, however, is their unwavering bond and the joy they find in each other's company. The cause of their deformities, whether congenital or due to confinement in restrictive spaces, remains uncertain. Yet, their resilience shines through, painting a picture of hope and the indomitable spirit of survival.

The journey ahead for Bambi and Thumper includes a thorough evaluation for physical therapy to address their front leg deformities. The specifics of their condition are still being determined, and CT scans are on the agenda to decide if surgery could offer them a better quality of life. In the meantime, front-end wheelchairs are being considered to assist with their mobility, ensuring they can enjoy life to the fullest before and potentially after surgery.
Their journey, however, is far from over. Bambi and Thumper's medical care, including the much-needed surgeries, is a costly endeavor that Cross My Paws Animal Rescue is committed to undertaking.
